What is the mathematical mystery behind the mechanism that activates all the bubbling fountains at the very same time? Team work and savvy are required to crack the M + E AquaCode. Within the fountain there are seven water beams, which can be activated via jump on pressure switches on the ground. Visitors try to switch on all water beams at once. This is rather challenging as each pressure switch affects three water beams: it toggles the state of the respective beam and its two neighbors, i. e. if a beam is off it will be switched on and vice versa. The interactive fountain was developed by the Mathematikum by order of the sponsor HESSENMETALL and premiered on this year's IdeenExpo.
