Master plan

In spring 2002 Hüttinger along with their partner Claus Lämmle were awarded the contract to work on a master plan in the context of a creative brain-storming session for a new Science Center in the Pee Dee Region in South Carolina. ScienceSouth should become a point of destination for tourists and provide a new dimension to cultural and family entertainment in the community.
ScienceSouth will create a 21st century living science center and will situate on a tract of several hundred acres with bottomland forest and river ecosystems. Visitors will experience science, math and engineering in a series of interconnected pavilions in this natural setting. As they interact with staff and exhibits, visitors will discover the real science that exists in this globally important ecosystem.
The pavilion themes will include agriculture, automotive science, aviation, space exploration, river ecology and will feature a ”smart house”, using innovative building technology. Each pavilion will house participatory labs, exhibits and hands on activities, enabling visitors to participate in real scientific processes relating to the theme. Each themed pavilion will house a variety of visitor experiences, including demonstrations and exhibit areas. As ScienceSouth grows, it can choose to add or change pavilions, this provides a flexible and fundable approach to development. ScienceSouth will be dynamic – growing, changing, and reflecting the nature of science.
